What To Do In the First 24 Hours After Moving In A New Home
The first 24 hours in your new home can be very daunting, so it’s good to have a plan in place so that you know what needs doing and when. Whether you’re a moving novice or a removals expert, here are some helpful tips to ensure that you have everything that you need for the first day and night in your new property!
1) Unloading your removals van.
The best place to start with setting up your new home is with your furniture. It’s a good idea to get this into place before you move your boxes and bags into the property, so try to get the layout organised as soon as possible!
2) Boxes.
Once your furniture is in the right place you can start moving boxes from the van to their designated rooms. You should have labelled your boxes with the name of the room they’re from, so it should be easy to get them into their right homes.
3) Essentials.
Once everything has been moved from your old home to your new one, it’s time to start unpacking the essentials. Hopefully you packed a few essentials boxes, filled with everything that you need for the first night in your new home. If you’ve done this then start with these boxes, but if not, don’t panic!
4) Bathroom.
Start by setting up your bathroom, as this is an essential room that needs to be prepared for you and your family. Try to unpack a couple of towels, necessary toiletries, toothbrushes and any hygiene products you may need. Don’t worry about styling products, bath products or anything else you might have brought with you. In the first day in your home you would usually only need essential items, so only unpack what’s needed at this stage!
5) Kitchen.
Your kitchen should have a few items in it so that you’ll be able to make drinks and snacks for yourself and for your family. Unpack enough plates and cutlery for the evening and morning, along with cups, a bit of food and any appliances that you think you might need, such as your kettle and toaster. If you’ve moved your fridge and freezer to your new home, now is the time to plug them in and allow them to cool and freeze overnight!
6) Bedroom.
The next most important room of your home is the bedroom. Start by making your bed so that you won’t need to rush around at bedtime – you won’t regret taking the time to do this! If you’ve moved house with your family, make sure everyone has a bed to fall into at the end of such a tiring and stressful day!
7) Setting up your home.
There are a few modern luxuries that you might not be able to do without on your first day in your new home. These can include your internet connection and phone line. Before moving day, speak to your providers to see when installations can be done. If your property is empty before moving day, it’s possible this can be done before you move. In some cases, it can be done on the day. Once your essentials are unpacked, why not set up your television so that the family can be entertained while you get busy unpacking the rest of your home!
8) Everything else.
Once you have your most needed items unpacked and ready for use, it’s time to start on the rest of your home. Try to make a schedule to stick to, so that you can get your home ready as soon as possible!
